Christmas in Downtown is one month from today. That means we are buckling down to get everyone registered for their open houses, sales, parade, displays and activities.

What is Christmas in Downtown? It’s a one day event where we invite businesses in our county seat of McArthur to stay open late, offer door prizes, activities for kids and provide an inexpensive way for families to kick off the holiday season. The event will be held this year on December 1 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. We will offer free wagon rides, lots of kiddie activities, live music and more.

This year’s theme is “A Civil War Christmas” to recognize the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in Ohio. While we don’t wish to glorify war we do hope to bring that era of American history to life, celebrate the good and provide a memorable holiday experience for everyone to enjoy.

We are looking for Civil War reenactors and others in period dress who might meet and greet our visitors, collectors who will display their artifacts and creative ways to infuse this theme into our event. As always, we seek non-profit and business participation, musicians, crafters and anyone else who would like to join in the fun. The more the merrier!
