We here at the Vinton County Visitors’ Center do not engage in partisan politics. We believe that all Americans should exercise their right to vote -your vote is your voice and it is a right not given lightly but fought for and defended by countless men and women before us.

With that said …… Something else we support on Election Day?

The FOOD!!! And it is everywhere.

Election Day dinners have long been a traditional fundraising opportunity for local organizations. This year is no different. Here’s what’s on tap this year.

Hamden Volunteer Fire Department

Breakfast (7 a.m. to 10 a.m.) – Enjoy all the pancakes you can eat plus sausage, coffee and orange drink for just $5.

Lunch and Dinner (11 a.m. to 6 p.m.) –  They will serve beans, cornbread, ice tea, coffee and dessert for $5. Hotdogs are available for an additional charge. All proceeds benefit the department.

Zaleski Volunteer Fire Department

I am sad to report that the Zaleski Fire Department has cancelled their 2012 dinner because of the untimely death of one of their members.

McArthur Business and Professional Women (BPW)

Lunch (11 a.m. to sellout) – Homemade chicken noodles, ‘real’ mashed potatoes, green beans, roll and drink for $6. Homemade desserts are available for $2 per slice. Whole homemade pies are available too. Pie selection will include apple, pecan, pumpkin and sugar cream. Call 596-2749 for carryout. All proceeds benefit the McArthur BPW Scholarship Fund. Starts at 11 a.m. Get there early because they sell out quick!!!

American Legion Ladies Auxiliary

(Breakfast and lunch) at the old firehouse in Wilkesville. Biscuits and gravey, bean and chili soup, hot dogs and sloppy joes. And I think some desserts. Everyone welcome.

Don’t forget about all the other eating establishments in our community. Any of our restaurants and stores with delis would love to have your business this and every day of the year.
