While the rest of the Midwest is getting hit with snow and ice, Vinton County is a balmy 36 degrees and rainy today. It’s the perfect day to stay indoors, wrapped in a blanket and sipping hot chocolate while browsing vacation brochures.

Here at the Visitors’ Center, we are dreaming of warmer temperatures and the day when our doors again swing open and closed with lots of visitors. We are also busy making space in our storage room for the 2011 Vinton County Visitors’ Guide.  This brand spankin’ new guide will arrive in just a few weeks.

Are you planning a trip to Vinton County this year? Go to www.visitvintoncounty.org and click on “Visitors’ Guide Request.”  We’ll ship it to you as soon they arrive.

Just remember that it’s dark and dreary today but it will soon be warm and sunny. In fact, in just a couple of months, it’ll look like this:

Sparkling waters at Lake Alma

So don’t lose heart. Enjoy these long winter days and remember that comfort food, movie nights and warm blankets are something special to enjoy during the cold months. It won’t be long before bathing suits and flip flops are close at hand and we are all seeking the shade of Vinton County’s forests.
