The first ever Vinton County Chamber of Commerce Decorating Contest has come to a close and we have announced the winners. Thanks to everyone who participated in our contest. Some turkeys will remain on display at the Chamber Office for a while so stop by and see these beautifully decorated birds.

We also want to thank our friends with the Austin Powder Company, McDonalds of Wellston and McArthur and R & C Quick Stop for sponsoring the prizes. We could not have done it without all of them.

Grand Champion went to “Nature at Its Best” by Tina Hale of WesBanco Bank. Tina decoupaged images from the Vinton County Visitors’ Guide on the turkey. She will receive the $400 grand prize and her turkey will be used as the model for large fiberglass turkey that will be placed on the street.

Second Place went to Vinton County Floral for their “Florist Fred.”  This beautiful turkey was painted, attached to a slate base and then adorned with flowers. They will receive the $250 prize for second place.

Third Place was a tie between two very different turkeys. One Third Place winner was Q-Tip Tommie by Trecia Kimes Brown. Trecia covered her turkey in painted Q-Tips.

The other Third Place winner was Meredith Jensen of the Vinton County Courier. Her “Journalism Jake” was dressed like a nineteen twenties scoop reporter complete with notepad and press hat. She will receive the $150 prize.

We had a separate contest for our friends who serve our community including fire departments, EMS and community service organizations. The winner in that category was the Hamden Firefighters Association with their “Nasty Bird.” They will receive a $100 prize.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our contest. It was successful because of all the wonderful people who decorated turkeys, donated prizes and supported the silent auction.
